    Egypt and Turkey strengthen their diplomatic ties to ambassadorial status

    Tuesday saw the establishment of embassies between Egypt and Turkey.

    According to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Egypt selected Amr El Hamamy as its new ambassador to Ankara, and Turkey named Salih Mutlu Sen as its new ambassador to Cairo.

    “The elevation of diplomatic relations between the two countries has been implemented in accordance with the decision taken by the presidents of both countries,” it continued.

    This action “reflects the mutual desire to develop bilateral relations in line with the interests of the Turkish and Egyptian people” and “aims to achieve the normalisation of relations between the two countries.”

    Turkish and Egyptian diplomatic ties have been at the charges d’affaires level since 2013.
