Somalia’s Jubbaland State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management convened an emergency coordination meeting in Kismayo, El-Nino, on Monday.

The discussion, which is conducted twice a month, focused on methods to mobilize and improve humanitarian assistance to families affected by the region’s continuous floods.

Participants in the conference, which included regional and federal government officials, international partners, and community members, emphasized the importance of addressing the difficulties confronting those affected by the relentless floods as soon as possible.

Jubbaland State is one of the Federal Member States of Somalia that has been severely damaged by flooding, which has submerged homes and forced residents to migrate to higher ground.

According to the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs in Somalia (OCHA), around 2000 people were stranded in the Luuq district as the Juba River burst its banks.

El-Nio is a climate phenomenon characterized by ocean surface warming or above-average sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
