Nairobi, May 8, 2024 — H.E. Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, attended a joint ministerial meeting of foreign and agriculture ministers in Nairobi on Wednesday as a prelude to the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit, which begins on Thursday. The meeting emphasized the role of fertilizers and soil health in stimulating sustainable, pro-poor growth in African agriculture.

The gathering resulted in the development of a ten-year action plan, which included tangible suggestions for African leaders and stakeholders to implement over the following decade. This comprehensive strategy intends to lead to new regulations and future investments that will enable farmers to successfully contribute to soil health restoration as well as fertilizer production and profitability.

With the ten-year action plan in place, policymakers and stakeholders are ready to adopt strategic initiatives that will result in significant transformation in African agriculture. The strategy outlines a clear path for the development of programs and investments aimed at empowering farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
