    Following a dispute over the presidential election in Somaliland, the election commission was disbanded.

    Following a disagreement, the Somaliland Electoral Commission was fully dismantled before of the contentious presidential election on November 13th.

    On Saturday, the three remaining commission members, including newly elected chairman Kaltuun Sheikh Hassan Abdi, submitted their resignation letters to Somaliland’s President.

    Over the last few weeks, several members of the panel have resigned. Abdirashid Mohamud Ali Rio-raac, the commission’s chairman, has announced his resignation on the 1st of this month.

    The disbandment of the committee is terrible, according to the chairman of the opposition UCID party, and they will organize a meeting to defend Somaliland and its security.

    In recent months, there has been a lot of dispute inside the commission. Former commission chairman Abdirashid Mohamud Ali Rio-rac refuted that President Bihi was involved in the argument among committee members, adding that the conflict had been going on for a long time and that the president was unaware of it.

    Somaliland police have been placed on high alert following protests called by Somaliland opposition parties; nonetheless, the opposition parties have agreed to hold the planned peaceful demonstrations.
