Somali Magazine 30 Aug 2023- The French government criticised the military coup in Gabon, a Central African country, according to a government official on Wednesday.
“France is also closely monitoring the situation and hopes that the election results, once announced, will be respected,” Olivier Veran said following the Council of Ministers in Paris.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne previously stated that France was paying “close attention” to developments in coup-torn Gabon.
Early Wednesday, a group of top Gabonese army commanders emerged on national television and declared that they had seized control.
The action occurred shortly after the Gabonese Election Centre announced that incumbent President Ali Bongo had been elected for a third term with 64.27% of the vote.
