During parliamentary sessions on Wednesday, a Kenyan MP was forced to remove a traditional Palestinian scarf he was wearing.

Farah Maalim said he was wearing the scarf in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel is at odds with the Palestinian Islamist party Hamas.

He stated that Palestine “requires the support of everyone in Kenya.”

However, the National Assembly Speaker ordered the MP to remove the scarf, citing parliamentary rules.

Fellow lawmakers also chastised the legislator for “disrespecting” House procedures.

It comes just a few days after Kenyan police temporarily detained three people for attending a pro-Palestinian rally in Nairobi.

President William Ruto has stated that his administration stands fully behind Israel in the continuing war.
