As part of its efforts to restore peace and development in the country, the Somali government has sought to enhance ties with Saudi Arabia and other regional allies. Saudi Arabia has provided humanitarian and military aid to Somalia, as well as support for its involvement in the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), a peacekeeping force that has assisted the Somali government in combating Al-Shabaab.
