Somali Magazine – On Friday, Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuddin, Commander of the Somali National Army, met with his Saudi counterpart, Major General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, in Riyadh. The meeting was part of the Somali delegation’s working tour to Saudi Arabia.

The two military chiefs discussed measures to strengthen bilateral relations between their countries and the Somali national army’s assistance. They also discussed regional security and collaboration in the fight against terrorism, particularly the threat posed by Al-Shabaab, a militant group that has waged a brutal insurgency in Somalia for over a decade.

As part of its efforts to restore peace and development in the country, the Somali government has sought to enhance ties with Saudi Arabia and other regional allies. Saudi Arabia has provided humanitarian and military aid to Somalia, as well as support for its involvement in the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), a peacekeeping force that has assisted the Somali government in combating Al-Shabaab.
