(HOL) Beledweyne On Saturday, Nur Idow Beyle, a member of Somalia’s 10th parliament, withdrew his candidacy.
Beyle abruptly resigned from the HOP-058 seat after spending months in Beledweyne in preparation for the election.
“I have decided to withdraw from the HOP58 2022-2026 election, which will take place in the coming days, as MP Noor Idow Beyle. I’m also honored to represent and work for Somalia as a whole, as well as the wider community. My home is in the Hiraan region, which was my electoral district. I also pledge to work with whoever is elected to that seat “Nur Idow Beyle expressed her thoughts.
Beyle’s withdrawal from the race coincides with the Hirshabelle Electoral Commission’s plan to register candidates for four parliamentary seats, including the HOP 058 seat, which is expected to be contested by up to ten candidates.
According to HOL sources, Beyle dropped out of the race due to the open candidacy and registration. Beyle had hoped for a less competitive race with a nearly certain outcome, but when he realized that wasn’t possible, he dropped out.
Last night, the Hirshabelle Electoral Commission announced that the elections would be held on Sunday.
According to HOL’s latest reports, heavily armed security personnel have cordoned off the area between the regional administration headquarters and the Parliamentary election hall.
