The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, took part in the flag raising ceremony to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the southern regions’ independence from Italian colonies and the unity of Somalia’s North and South regions.

Other top officials from the federal government, state governments, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony, which was held in the Somali National Presidency.
The ritual began around midnight, the same time the flag was flown in Mogadishu on July 1, 1960, when the southern areas declared independence from the Italian colonial government. The president congratulated all Somalis on their hard work and resilience in the face of adversity.

The 63rd anniversary of the independence of the Southern regions from Italian colonies and the union of the North and South regions is being commemorated in numerous locations around Somalia, not just the capital city of Mogadishu.
People in the capital city are dressed in costumes created from the Somali Republic’s flag, displaying their excitement and jubilation. The week-long independence festivities began on June 26, 2023, when Somalia’s northern territories earned independence from the British colony.

The union of Somalia’s North and South regions was a watershed moment in the country’s history, bringing together two independent areas with differing colonial legacies.

For the Somali people, who had undergone years of colonial domination and fragmentation, the union was hailed as a symbol of hope and unification.

However, in the years since its independence, the country has encountered various problems, including political instability, military warfare, and humanitarian catastrophes. With the help of its allies, the Somali government has been trying to solve these difficulties and foster peace, stability, and prosperity in the country.

The Independence Day celebrations serve as a reminder of the Somali people’s fortitude and tenacity in the face of adversity. As the country continues on its path of progress and development, it is critical to reflect on past accomplishments and work towards a better future for all Somalis.
