Russia alleged on Tuesday that Ukraine attempted but failed to assault a patrol ship belonging to the country’s fleet in the Black Sea using two unmanned boats.

“During the course of repelling the attack, the Russian ship’s standard armament destroyed both remote-controlled enemy boats at distances of 1,000 and 800 metres (3,281 feet and 2,625 feet).” “There were no casualties,” declared the Russian Defence Ministry.

According to the statement, the Russian cruiser Sergey Kotov is regulating traffic in the southwestern Black Sea, barely 370 kilometres (230 miles) from the Crimean city of Sevastopol, which Russia unlawfully invaded in 2014.

“The Sergey Kotov ship of the Black Sea Fleet continues to fulfil its tasks,” the statement said.

Ukrainian officials have yet to respond, and independent verification of Russia’s allegations is impossible owing to the continuing conflict.
