For scores of Somali high school graduates, Sunday was a day of celebration for a job well done.

The Somali American Social Service Association hosted the event. SASSA was founded in 2012 with the goal of assisting immigrants in integrating into the community while remembering and honouring their culture.

According to SASSA, around 150 Somali high school seniors graduated from the four RPS high schools this spring. The basketball game today at the RCTC Regional Sports Centre, according to organisers, was intended to allow students to have some fun while celebrating their hard work.

“The SASSA is our organisation,” Ali Abdi, Sports Coordinator, explained. “That always helps the youth.” This is the second year we have celebrated our high school students who have excelled in their studies.”
