Mogadishu (Somali Magazine). On Sunday night, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud signed official revisions to four chapters of the Constitution, which were unanimously approved by the bicameral federal Parliament last Saturday.

President Mohamud stressed that completing the Constitution creates the framework for democracy, equal rights for all Somali citizens, and the establishment and development of effective government institutions.

The Speakers of the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament, as well as the Parliamentary Review Committee on the Constitution, attended the Constitution’s signing ceremony.

The constitutional review committee announced that 7,470 Somali citizens had provided feedback and comments on the proposed revisions, while 213,838 Somali citizens had reviewed the Constitution.

However, Puntland’s regional administration declared its withdrawal of recognition of the Federal Government of Somalia, describing the constitutional modifications as a violation of the federal accord that has historically unified the country.
