Somali Magazine – The Federal Republic of Somalia’s Lower House adopted the deal to join the East African Community.

The adoption of this agreement prepares the way for Somalia’s request to join the EAC, which has been given a 6-month deadline to be passed by the government’s legislative body.

The committee was tasked with finalising Somalia’s official membership in the EAC and completing their work to integrate Somalia into the Community.

Somalia was welcomed into the East African Community on November 24th, 2023 at a meeting in Arusha, Tanzania.

On December 15, 2023, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud signed a deal to join the EAC alongside the current EAC Head and President of South Sudan.

Somalia joins the EAC as the eighth member, after Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
