Because of the potential for espionage, Denmark’s Defense Ministry on Monday forbade its personnel from using TikTok on work-related devices.
The ministry issued a statement that read, “The decision has been taken in continuation of the advice from the Center for Cyber Security (CFCS) on February 24, 2023.
As the app “asks for specific permissions and access on the device,” the CFCS determined that it should be withdrawn.
The defense ministry cited “significant security reasons within the defense ministry paired with a very restricted work-related requirement to utilize the app” as the justification for the prohibition.
All staff members have been made aware of the decision, and they “are obliged to delete TikTok on service phones and other official devices as soon as possible if they had previously installed it,” according to the statement.
The number of staff who had the app installed was not further specified by the government.
