Somali Magazine September 13,2023-The death toll from flooding in Libya’s eastern city of Derna has grown to 5,300, according to the country’s official news agency on Tuesday.

According to the news agency, the Interior Ministry in East Libya of the administration constituted by the House of Representatives said in a statement that thousands of individuals are still missing.

“Local rescue teams are continuing the search for missing persons,” the ministry’s media official, Mohamed Aboulmosha, said, calling for “international intervention to assist in rescue efforts.”

On Monday, Libya’s Presidency Council appealed to friendly countries and international humanitarian organisations to help flood-ravaged eastern Libya.

Benghazi, Bayda, Al Marj, and Soussa are among the other cities and towns devastated by the weekend disaster.

Libya’s Tripoli-based unity government, led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, declared all places vulnerable to lethal flooding disaster zones and declared three days of national mourning.
