Mrs. Catriona Laing, the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, was met by President Muse Bihi Abdi at the Presidential Palace.

The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation between the Republic of Somaliland and the United Nations in order to accelerate and strengthen the organization’s projects in Somaliland.

Several ministries, including the ministries of Interior, Planning and National Development, Finance, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Special Envoy for the Somaliland-Somalia Dialogue, attended the meeting with the President. The UN delegation was accompanied by the head of the UN office in Hargeisa and other officials.

The meeting also included discussions between the Republic of Somaliland and Somalia, with an emphasis on finding a peaceful solution to the situation in Lasanod.

The President and the UN Special Representative discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and encourage dialogue to resolve outstanding concerns.

The discussion concluded with complete agreement and an understanding that both parties will work closely together to achieve similar goals.

The President thanked the UN for its sustained assistance and dedication to Somaliland’s growth and stability.

For many years, Somaliland, a self-proclaimed autonomous state, has sought recognition as a sovereign entity.

Despite not being recognised as an independent state by the international world, Somaliland has made tremendous progress in developing democratic institutions and supporting economic development.

The UN has been collaborating closely with Somaliland to boost its development and to promote peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

The meeting between President Muse Bihi Abdi and UN Special Representative Catriona Laing emphasises the significance of Somaliland and the international community working together to overcome the region’s difficulties.

As Somaliland continues on its path to peace and prosperity, the United Nations and other foreign partners’ assistance will be vital to its success.
