President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Brussels, Belgium, to attend the Global Gateway Forum, a two-day event held by the European Union (EU) to promote sustainable and trusted global linkages.

The meeting, which begins on Wednesday afternoon, will bring together representatives from the EU and other countries, as well as the commercial sector, civic society, financial institutions, and international organizations. The goal is to incentivize public and private investment in high-quality infrastructure, health, education, and research systems that benefit both people and the environment.

President Mohamud is scheduled to speak at the event on Wednesday about vital global challenges such as the urgent need for infrastructure development, the transition to renewable energy, and education.

He will also discuss Somalia’s accomplishments in security, governance, and development, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

The president is accompanied by a high-level delegation, which includes the foreign minister. On the margins of the forum, he will also hold bilateral discussions with EU officials and other leaders.

The Global Gateway is the EU’s strategy for boosting smart, clean, and secure links in the digital, energy, and transportation sectors, as well as strengthening global health, education, and research networks. It also aligns with the UN Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the Paris Climate Agreement.
