Abdirisaaq Khalif Ahmed, Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, applauded President Muse Bihi Abdi for his decision to remove the troops from Las Anod town in order to stop additional fighting.

After returning to Hargeisa from a recent trip to Las Anod, Abdirisaaq Khalif stressed that he had given the President a briefing on the state of affairs and political activity in the area. He hoped that Somaliland wouldn’t have any major issues as a result of the current SSC conference in Las Anod.

The president received the following advise from me: “We were not anticipating anything that would cause a problem for the country and the people. The people were sitting down to discuss their problems.”

The speaker went on to say that the government was always up for talking to people without any restrictions and that problems should be seen as opportunities. He also said that the Somaliland government was eager to consult with traditional leaders on issues that affected their future.

Saleban Mohamud Aden, the speaker of the Somaliland House of Elders, stated on Saturday that his House is actively attempting to fix the problems in Las Anod and has recently been collaborating with President Muse Bihi Abdi to do so.

Over the weekend, the traditional chiefs from the Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn districts assembled in Las Anod to talk about the future of their domain.

The supreme traditional clan chief of the Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn regions, Garad Jama Garad Ali, opened the high-level meeting, which was attended by the majority of the elders from the three regions.
