Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan continues to receive letters of congratulations from foreign leaders following his reelection, according to Communications Director Fahrettin Altun on Tuesday.

“So far, the president has received phone calls congratulating him from 19 countries.” Furthermore, more than 100 politicians and foreign organisations sent written words of congratulations to the president’s reelection,” Altun stated on Twitter.

On May 28, Turkey went to the polls for the second round of the presidential election after no contender received the 50% required for an outright victory in the first round on May 14.

According to unofficial figures, Erdogan received 52.14% of the vote, while opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu received 47.86%.

“The president will continue to use the opportunities of leader diplomacy to improve our bilateral relations, resolve regional and global issues, and contribute to peace and stability in the new era as well,” Altun added.
