According to Turkish diplomatic sources, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has continued to receive phone calls from his counterparts throughout the world over his appointment to the new position.

According to the sources, France’s Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, and Albania’s Europe and Foreign Minister Olta Xhacka congratulated Fidan on his nomination as Turkey’s foreign minister.

Following the May elections, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan nominated Fidan as his top diplomat on June 3. From 2010 until his accession to the Cabinet, he was the director of the National Intelligence Organisation.

He succeeded his predecessor, Mevlut Cavusoglu, as Foreign Minister.
