Following the Taliban’s decision to suspend schooling for girls beyond the sixth grade, Turkiye urged the interim government in Afghanistan late Wednesday to allow girls of all ages to attend school.

“We regret the continuation of the ban on girls attending secondary school in Afghanistan in the new school year that began today,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“We urge the Interim Afghan Government to allow girls of all ages to participate in inclusive education as soon as possible, first and foremost for the benefit of the Afghan people, and to emphasize that we will continue to stand by the Afghan people in these trying times.”
