During extensive conversations with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, US Secretary of State John Kerry emphasized the need of fully implementing the peace deal reached between the federal government and Tigrayan forces.

According to Antony Blinken, there must be accountability for atrocities committed by both sides during the two-year battle, and human rights monitors must be allowed access to places devastated by the violence, which ended last November.

According to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the two men addressed reviving relations that had cooled during the fighting between federal forces, Eritrean allies, and Tigrayans.

Mr Blinken, who also met with Tigrayan officials, pledged an additional $330 million (£247 million) in funding for Ethiopia.
